about

The third single from Track Dogs' forthcoming album "Where to Now?" features the gloriously epic strings of Nashville musician Eli Bishop, giving the song a wonderfully retro "Sunday afternoon classic western" vibe. Eli is an American violinist, composer, and arranger who is recognized for his virtuosity and versatility across multiple genres of music. He has performed with artists including Wynton Marsalis, Lee Ann Womack, Maddie & Tae, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, The Video Game Orchestra, as a member of the Grand Ole Opry’s house band and has recorded with Dolly Parton for Dollywood. He is also the Guinness World Record holder for fastest clapper!

Garrett Wall's lead vocal and Spanish style acoustic guitar is accompanied by Howard Brown's evocatively mariachi trumpet lines, Dave Mooney's perfectly minimalistic bass and mandolin and Robbie K. Jones' subtle latin percussion.

The song relates the story of a hapless 15th century conquistador from the Spanish town of Trujillo in Extremadura, birthplace of the legendary Francisco Pizarro. Following Pizarro to pursue fortune and adventure in the new world and a futile quest for the mythical gold of lore he ends up losing everything, his family mourning the loss of their son.

lyrics

There’s a river of gold
In a story that’s told
Flowing to take you away
But the river of old
Only favoured the bold
In the land of the blue agave

On the river of gold
You can lighten your load
Live out the rest of your days
But the river of old
Hides a sorrow I’m told
Las lágrimas de tus padres

There’s a river of gold
It’s no place for the old
(All) the wise ones have long slipped away
‘Cos the river of old
Puts a weight on your soul
It’s a high price that no one should pay

On the river of gold
Where the nights can be cold
Far from the walls of Trujillo
Oh the river of old
Took you far from your home
Lejos de aqui hijo mío

There’s a river of gold
In a story I’m told
The song of the Conquistadores
On the river of gold
They never grow old
In the land of the blue agave

about

Track Dogs Madrid, Spain

Track Dogs are an acoustic four piece based in Spain but hail from Ireland, the US and UK.

Taking their name from the NY subway maintenance teams this closely-knit group of ex-pats have opted for Cajón instead of drums and trumpet in place of electric guitar. Four-part harmonies steal the show.
