about

This is only available on the Bandcamp version of the album so thanks a lot for getting it here.

During lockdown 2020 our friends, US bluegrass band The Barefoot Movement, invited us to collaborate in their yearly YouTube Christmas special.

As they were big fans of the song already they suggested a new version of "How Christmas Was Meant to Be", which was originally released by Track Dogs in 2011.

The addition of Noah Wall and Katie Blomarz' amazing voices as well as Tommy Norris' mandolin add a very special seasonal warmth to the song.

The lyrics are about how important the holiday season is for those who spend time away from loved ones, about long distance relationships, families who live apart. Even if it's the only time they see each other all year it's always better at Christmas.

lyrics

Well it seems, so very long
Since I wrote you that Christmas song
It was only yesterday
When that plane took you away from me again
So I’m wishing ‘cos it's all I can do
And I'm hoping & praying that wishes
Would only come true
If our paths cross again
Though it be now and then
Oh please let it be at Christmas time
Please let it be at Christmas time
Though it only comes, once a year
It's the one time you need your love near
So come be with me
It's how Christmas was meant to be
So I'm thinking only of you
And I'm thinking that maybe this time
Wishing's all I need do
If I see you again
Though it be now and then
Oh please let it be at Christmas time
Please let it be at Christmas time
Though it only comes once a year
It's the one time you need your love near
So come be with me
It's how Christmas was meant to be
It's how christmas was meant to be

about

Track Dogs Madrid, Spain

Track Dogs are an acoustic four piece based in Spain but hail from Ireland, the US and UK.

Taking their name from the NY subway maintenance teams this closely-knit group of ex-pats have opted for Cajón instead of drums and trumpet in place of electric guitar. Four-part harmonies steal the show.
